Sam & Safia’s wedding at Newland Barn was amazing and full of new experiences that united people from both sides of the Atlantic. I took pictures of them for their engagement, photos of which can be seen here.
I knew Sam from university. He was working for the BBC when he met Safia who was over from California on a placement. After a whirlwind romance Sam made the big move to California for them to be together.
When I was asked to fly to Los Angeles to photograph their wedding at a beautiful venue in Huntington, California I was very excited, this being my first ever trip to the States. It was my first wedding shoot overseas and what a location to do it in!
I stayed with Safia’s parents, a lovely couple with a very spoilt cat! Luckily due to all the movies I had watched the American culture shock wasn’t too bad! After a quick trip to one of Safia’s friends’ house to photograph the bridal party make-up and hair session. I then went over to the venue to help Sam and his best man Jason get the place ready.
For an outside wedding the weather couldn’t have been more perfect. After the ceremony conducted by another of their friends we went for a walk on the hill outside the venue for some scenic pictures with the sunset being the icing on the cake. As it got darker the barn lights came on creating the most amazing atmosphere and I also really liked their choice for the first dance song: Transatlanticism by Death Cab for Cute. A great weekend I will never forget.
